30 July, Friendship party in the park:
Five Ways Friends are celebrating International Day of Friendship in the park, from 11am to 3pm on Thursday 30th July 2015. This event with entertainment, activities and food stalls is aimed at older people and carers from the local area.   Phone 01923 216967 for further information and to book your place. 1, 15 & 31  August, Cassiobury Farm open days:
This new venue is holding public open days on Saturdays 1 and 15 August, and on bank holiday Monday (31st), from 10am to 5pm. Located at the southern end of the Local Nature Reserve, between Gade Avenue and Gade Bank. Charge applies, see Cassiobury Farm

5, 12, 19, 26 August, Woodland Skills:
Every Wednesday in August, from¬†11am to 1pm.¬†Children’s activity (age 10+), learning natural skills in the woods. Free of charge, but booking essential with Debbie Brady on 01923 278972 or email: deborah.brady@watford.gov.uk.

7 & 14 August, Park Heritage development plans:
Come along to the information stand near the paddling pools on either of these two Fridays to find out about redevelopment plans for the park (which is being largely funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund). Other dates are Saturday 22 August, and Thursday 3 September.

8 August, Picnic in the Park:
Bring your teddy¬†and come on a bear hunt, make some bear food and stay for a picnic after the event. Families of all ages are welcome but it will be especially fun for younger bears. Follow the bear prints from the Gade Avenue car park and drop in between 11am and 12 noon ‚Äď no need to book.

15 August, Dogs Trust Day:
Come along to the Dogs Trust stand near the paddling pools between 11am and 3pm on Saturday 25th August. Free dog training, obedience tips and microchipping.

16 August, Artisan Market:
The Little Fox Market from Ricky is setting up artisan boutique stalls in the area outside The Cha Café on Sunday 16th August , from 10am to 2pm.

22 August, Herts Pride:
The Herts Pride festival will be held on Saturday 22 August 2015, see Hertspride

Regular events, throughout the year

Every (almost) Wednesday, Health Walks:
Hertfordshire Health Walks start from The Cha on Wednesday mornings.  Some routes are more challenging than others, for details see Countryside Management Service

Every  Wednesday, Green Gym:
The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) organise sessions which help improve the environment whilst getting some outdoor exercise. Meet outside The Cha on Wednesdays at 9:45am. For details see TCV Watford

Every Saturday, parkrun:
At 9am every Saturday (from 28 February 2015), a 5 kilometre run/walk starts from the top of the park, near the flagpole. Free, and everyone welcome, but if you are new to parkrun its best to register (once only) at least 24 hours in advance via the parkrun website, see parkrun.

Third Saturday of each month, Litter Picking and Reserve Work Parties:
The Friends of Cassiobury Park organise litter picking on the third Saturday of each month, from 10am to noon. On the same date they also run a work party in the nature reserve in co-ordination with the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, which runs from 10am to 1pm. See FoCP

Once a month on a Tuesday, Nature Reserve Work Party:
Generally on the Tuesday before the third Saturday, the Friends of Cassiobury Park join forces with the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust to carry out conservation work in the nature reserve, from 10am to 3pm.  See FoCP

Various dates –¬†¬†Music in The Cha cafe:
There are occasional music events held at the café in the park (The Cha) on Saturday evenings.  Usually an admission charge applies, see Silencio

 

Annual events

Some that have recently taken place, and others that come back each year

February РWatford Half Marathon: 
Organised by the Watford Harriers this February event usually attracts around 2,000 runners and is one of the first large half-marathon events of the year in the south of the country. There is also a “Junior Challenge”, a series of shorter races for under 16s, on the same day. ¬†In 2015 this event was held on Sunday 1st February, with a course¬†modified from previous years. ¬†See¬†Watford half marathon website.

May 1st – Greet the Dawn:
Woodside Morris Men generally get up early on Mayday to greet the dawn in the park, see Woodside.

May – Watford 10K run:
Held on the May Day bank holiday each year this ‘charity fun run’ starts and finishes in Cassiobury Park. Money is raised for Watford Mencap and other charities Watford Round Table supports. As well as the main 10k race¬†there are also popular junior 1k and 3k races. The 2015 event was held on 4th May, see the¬†Watford 10k¬†website.

May – Fun Fair:
A funfair with various rides and sideshows generally visits the park in late May. Unfortunately this usually coincides with rainy weather! In 2015 the fair visited from 23 to 31 May.

June – Race for Life:
In 2015 this annual fundraiser for Cancer Research UK took place on Sunday 14th June.  For details see RfL 2015

June – Grand Union Challenge:
Cassiobury park was the half way point on the 100 km route for this event held for the second time on the weekend  of June 27/28 2015 Рsee GU Challenge

July – Starlight Walk:
This ladies-only late evening sponsored walk to raise funds for the Peace Hospice generally includes Cassiobury Park on its route. In 2015 the event took place on the evening of Saturday 11th July, with a candle-lit section through the park, see Starlight

July/August – Swing / Jazz music and dance:
This event was held for the first time in 2014, and is due to return on Sunday 26 July 2015. For more information, contact Debbie Brady on 01923 278972 or email: deborah.brady@watford.gov.uk

Late August – Herts Pride:
The Herts Pride festival will be held on Saturday 22 August 2015, see Hertspride

Summer РPedal 4 Peace:
Sponsored bike rides in support of Peace Hospice Care, starting from the Gade Avenue car park, held most recently on Sunday 7th September 2014. See Peace Hospice

Summer – Heritage Horse and Carriage Rides:
Horse and carriage rides through the park and woods took place on two days in May 2015 and are due back on 4/5 September 2015 Рfor more info, contact Debbie Brady on 01923 278972 or email: deborah.brady@watford.gov.uk

[October – Push it for the Peace:]
This five mile obstacle course to raise funds for The Peace Hospice has been held in the park in previous years, but for 2015 is moving to Chiswell Green.

October –¬†Halloween Spooky Trail:
Park Ranger Debbie Brady organised an event for 5 to 14 year olds on 31 October 2014. For more info contact Debbie on 01923 278972 or email: deborah.brady@watford.gov.uk

November – Fireworks display:
Each year the Cassiobury Park fireworks and bonfire night is held on the Saturday nearest to 5th November. In 2015 this will be 7th November.  For more details see the council website

November – Autumn Challenge:
Cross country race organised by Watford Joggers, generally held on (or near) remembrance Sunday.  See  Watford Joggers

December – Christmas Family Fun:
Festive family fun event, due to be held next on Sunday 6 December 2015, based in the area around The Cha.
