September 4, 11, 18, 25, Taster Health Walks:
Come and try one of the “taster” Hertfordshire Health Walks on any Thursday in September.  Meet at 11:15am by café Cha Cha Cha.  See Countryside Management Service

September 20, Push it for the Peace:
Five mile obstacle course, due to be held for the third time on Saturday 20th September 2014. See push it

October 31, Halloween “Party”:
Park Ranger Debbie Brady is organising an event suitable for 5 to 14 year olds, with sessions starting in the park at 6pm, 7pm and 8pm and venturing (if you dare) into Whippendell Woods. Charge applies. For more info and to book a place, contact Debbie on 01923 278972 or email:

November 8, Fireworks display:
Each year the Cassiobury Park fireworks and bonfire night is held on the Saturday nearest to 5th November. In 2014 this will be held on 8th November.  For more details see the council website

Other events

Some that have recently taken place, and others that are regulars each year

Early February – Watford Half Marathon: 
Organised by the Watford Harriers this February event usually attracts around 2,000 runners and is one of the first large half-marathon events of the year in the south of the country. There is also a “Junior Challenge”, a series of shorter races for under 16s, on the same day.  In 2014 this event was held on Sunday 2nd February.  See Watford half marathon website.

May 1st – Greet the Dawn:
Woodside Morris Men generally get up early on Mayday to greet the dawn in the park, see Woodside.

May – Watford 10K run:
Held on the May Day bank holiday each year this ‘charity fun run’ starts and finishes in Cassiobury Park. Money is raised for Watford Mencap and other charities Watford Round Table supports. As well as the main 10k race there are also popular junior 1k and 3k races. Results of 2014 event now on  Watford 10k website.

May – Fun Fair:
A funfair with various rides and sideshows generally visits the park in late May. Unfortunately this usually coincides with rainy weather, and 2014 was no exception!

June – Race for Life:
In 2014 this annual fundraiser for Cancer Research UK took place on Sunday 15th June.  For details see RfL 2014

June – Starlight Walk:
This ladies-only late evening sponsored walk to raise funds for the Peace Hospice generally includes Cassiobury Park on its route. In 2014 the date  was Saturday 21st June, with a candle-lit section through the park, see Starlight

June onwards – Green Gym:
Every Wednesday at 9:45am the Cassiobury Green Gym meets at Cha Cha Cha, and then sets off to do conservation work in the park until 1pm. For details and to sign up, see TCV Green Gym 

June – Grand Union Challenge:
Cassiobury park was the half way point on the 100 km route for this event held for the first time in June 2014. Maybe coming back next year – see GU Challenge

Late August – Herts Pride:
The Herts Pride festival was held on Saturday 30th August 2014.  see Hertspride

Summer – Pedal 4 Peace:
Sponsored bike rides in support of Peace Hospice Care, starting from the Gade Avenue car park, held most recently on Sunday 7th September 2014. See Peace Hospice

Heritage Horse and Carriage Rides:
Horse and carriage rides through the park and woods took place on two days in May 2014 and again in September.  To enquire whether any more are planned, contact Debbie Brady on 01923 278972 or email:

November – Autumn Challenge:
Cross country race organised by Watford Joggers, to be held next on Sunday 16 November 2014 at 11am.  See  Watford Joggers

December – Christmas Family Fun:

Various dates -  Music in Cha Cha Cha:
There are occasional music events held at the café in the park (Cha Cha Cha) on Saturday evenings.  Admission charge, see Silencio

Every (almost) Wednesday, Health Walks:
Hertfordshire Health Walks start from Cha Cha Cha on Wednesday mornings.  Some routes are more challenging than others, for details see Countryside Management Service
